I have just spent a long time replacing the head gaskets on my 3.5 GDI and thought it was great once I had it all finnished but on the test run I noticed water pouring out underneath of the gear box, I knew it could not be from the box but had to find out where it was coming from on the engine.
To cut a long story short it was from a smal pipe that sits between the two heads on top of the block, see pic.
As you can imagine it was almost a full strip down to get to it only to find that a small O ring on the offending pipe had split when I put it back first time.
I made a simple system to put pressure on the cooling system to show the leak and will put a post in tips to help any one who may need to check for leaks.
