Hi. I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Pajero 3.2 DID and the smoke problem persists despite having had the EGR cleaned, lasted about 3 months before the excessive smoking reappeared, then had the manifold cleaned, again has lasted for about 3/4 months. There seems to be no way of getting rid of the black smoke. All the work has been done by Mitsubishi qualified mechanics, and the fixes mentioned above have always been their suggestions. Can someone please offer some suggestion what to do next. The mechanics have suggested cleaning the manifold again, but personally I feel that I am just wasting my hard earned cash. The car has not missed any service/maintenance since new, always done by mitsubishi distributors. Thanks Charles |

Hi,
Yesterday acted upon advise and took car to Diesel injection and pump calibration specialist. Diagnosed faulty pump valve and calibration need.
Just collected the car, they replaced valve ref 9443611832 ?? and calibrated pump, no black smoke and runs as good as new. Cost (very painful) £359.00.
Perhaps everyone else in Mitsubishi had focus too much on EGR and ignored other possible causes.
Anyway, many thanks to all those that replied to my request for help

No - You said they cleaned EGR and fixed it for a few months. |
