my mates paj ( k plate 2.5 ) has had a starting problem recently and "we" have found a duff glow plug but it appears to be siezed in, does anyone have a way of removing it without it shearing off in the head as it would be a marathon of a task to take the head off for 1 stoopid glow plug?

get some heat on it, torch, be careful, hot air gun, or just run the motor, and when you stop, dive in a quick as you can, give a nip to tighten it first, then back to get it out, should be fine, heat is the thing.

Try soaking it in penetrating oil for a couple of days, then try and tighten it a smidgeon to break any crud on the the threads. Then when you get it moving, work it back and forth as you unscrew it.

Another tip is to start the engine, if poss, and take it for a run to let everything get hot - then get a cloth soaked in cold water and wrap it around the glowplug. What you are trying to do is cool the glowplug down rapidly and break up the crud on the threads.

Sometimes, with seized threads, it's worth giving it a tap with a hammer in a downwards direction to break any crud up - the thing is with glowplugs is that some of them have ceramic tips and you might cause the tip to snap off. That's happened to a couple of guys on here and they ended up taking the head off.

Soak in penetrating oil for a couple of days and be patient.
