As these old girls are getting older and as a few have now seen a few British winters the "look out for list" needs to be updated...

I saw a few Pajero's when I was looking for my latest and came across tinworm - not a problem when this thread started and they were all relatively fresh imports...

I saw holes in the Chassis behind the rear wheels (SWB)
I saw bad corrosion around the wheel arches and in the door pillars
I saw bad corrosion around the windscreen

The other problems to watch out for although not deal-breakers in my mind are:

Rev Counter not working
2.8 Pump seal needs replacing (starts ok then stops ... its well documented on here)
bad smoking - might be simple job of cleaning filter in rocker box but may be a goosed turbo but might just need the EGR Valve Cleaned or blanked
watch out for lower front shock absorber bushes being knackered
other bushes may be dry and worn and need new poly - simple enough
beware of dry steering joints and prop shaft UJ's - should see signs of being greased regularly
Exhausts - not a mega expensive job and can fit stainless for about the same now.

I'm always cautious of a car with a tow bar - I want to know what its been towing

look for signs or evidence of regular service, oil and filter changes.

get a goodun and you'll enjoy these great cars, get a baddun and you'll be coughing up all the time.

Caveat emptor as they say

Hey guys, I'm about to buy a 1997 Pajero GDI 3500 tiptronic because its too cheap to pass up.
Been owned and serviced by a family its whole life and now been sitting for a year without much use.
Question, is 250kms too much for a GDI? I would think with they're countless problems, it wouldn't have made it this far is it wasn't well looked after. And if it sits for a long time, is the fuel system more likely to rust up? Just wondering if many people get more mms than this out of theirs...

Thanks.
