transverse 4x4 gear lever seems to be jammed in nowhere land normal drive gearstick goes in all gears but no drive never had any problems before its a h reg mk2 long wheel base told happens because i dont use the 4 wheel drive a lot if ever can the lever be freed without removing the gear box

It sounds as if the transfer case has locked in the neutral position which is just prior to 4llc.

Keep trying gently to disengage after rolling the car back and forth to free up whatever is stuck.
