this is on the system that is runn ing the cable!!!
its a router- so my understanding is - wire into modem - then into router -then into pc.....hence pc is still 'wired' but router then takes signal and splits it into wired/wireless - allowing access via wireless....well the 'wired' pc still wont connect - but if I take router out of line then all is fine again!
Its SHOULD be easy - but its just doing my head in, no patience at the moment |

If it is saying "cable unplugged" then it means it. You have a problem with your physical connection to the router. Try a different network cable. You may be using a crossover cable where it is not supported. Do a visual check on the activity lights at both ends, etc...

Bezzabsa
Unplug everything, plug router into cable modem, turn on power, let modem recognize router.
Now plug Ethernet cable to Ethernet board in your computer and turn on computer, you should find it will say found new hardware. Then you’ll more than likely have to reboot modem for an IP address, then reboot computer, it should auto setup.
On Virgin here to, scientific Atlanta modem and netgear router, hardwired to my desktop computer which I built myself, using XP pro and wireless to my daughters laptop in other room which is using Vista Basic.
If not let me know. |

OK OK . so step back a bit - the cable modem has a screw in connector - and a Ethernat lead out put, the router only has ethernet compatability...so in theory it should be cable into modem - out of modem into router - out of router into PC.....well tried all that and nothing - the laptop picks up the router when plugged in - with NO cables attatched - but still wont do anything when cables are in - same happens to the 'wired' pc......someone mentioned drivers - BUT with no actual connection between PC and router i cant see this happening?
HELP |

It won't be drivers. If the OS can tell that it is unplugged then the drivers are loaded. It's a physical thing ! |
