Well, me n Angie are starting to warm to the idea of a caravan but don't know which direction to take.
Static has the advantage of being roomier(normally) but limited to one site and you have annual site fees to think about
Cost could be recouped by letting out
Mobile has the advantage of being, well mobile, so can go anywhere. But where to store it when not in use.
I wouldn't be happy about parking it out in the street either.
I can see this going on for a while before we finally make a decision |

Touring van means that you can take more, cheap holidays, often at the drop of a hat, and you can see tons of different parts of the country that maybe you wouldn't have gone to, but whilst looking for a site, you have been made aware of .....
also, useful for club meets...
storage - normally there would be a van storage place relatively near .... mine costs £240 per year, or ask a local farmer, or just ask at a caravan park - some store as well.......
all in all, give it a go for a couple of seasons .... if it doesn't suit you, just sell it
hope this helps,

Touring caravan
You cant stick the paj on a static and tow it around the country
Storage on average 250 - 350 per year (sometimes cheaper) costs a bit of extra fuel in your motor to tow it around,
but compare that to a static, avg. fees circa 2k, yes you can rent out, but with the added disadvantage of being stuck in one place..........
Buy yourself a cheapish tourer, try it out.... if not sell it |

It's looking like a 4/5 berth tourer
Probably start with something cheap to see how we get on with it but there are some crackers for sale locally for
less than a grand and include full awnings.
Some even have fitted showers at that price.
Also, there's a caravan sales place loclly which does fully CCTV covered storage for £285/year
Gonna do a little more digging but I can see up being hooked up later in the Summer
Suppose I'll have to figure out how to reverse the bu66er now |

2 options on reversing
hook it up practice practice practice and hope you dont hit nothing
Or spend about 100 quid and book yourself onto a trailer course - i did and it well worth while, spent 4 and half hours reversing his trailer, and then we went to my horsebox hooked that up and spent half hour with that |

i have had both well all 3 including a motorhome.
caravan is best for all of the above reasons.
also they can be used as an extra room when you have visitors so keep the riff-raf out of the house..lol.. |

I've got a tourer Abbey Spectrum 520 that is on a seasonal pitch in Welshpool.
Best of both worlds for me, I can take it off whenever I like, and only £600 for the pitch (March-November) including leccy!
Goes into storage on the same site over the winter for £100 too... |

What you need my friend is a trailer tent or folding camper, lots more room than a caravan, you can put wheels on side and tip them up to store and will go anywhere a caravan can at half the weight you will get all mod cons apart from instant hot water which will come from the kettle ...A newish folding camper will have proper toilet, fridge, cooker etc but they are pricey! |

Hello
Your storage will be the biggest cost once you have got a van, the modern trailer tents are good, but not much fun packing them up in the rain (or an awning come to that), but as said give it a go you probably won't loose any money over a couple of seasons on your purchase price.
Regards Mark |

Mobile for sure... next Friday we're off to Somerset and it'll be the first time pulling with the Paj (apart from a 'round the block trip!) |

At Billing mm09 there was a sign on the wall that said
"old tourers don't die, they just go static"... I thought that was great.
Tourer every time for us.. |

Thanks for all the info guys.
Looks like the decision is made.
We're off to Wales in July(already booked) and we'll be looking to buy when we get back.
Probably looking at 4/5 berth. Somthing with 1 or 2 bedrooms(is this realistic?) and a shower(a must)
Must have elec hookup
I can do any wiring necessary but I've already seen some that fit the bill in my area for £1000-£1500. Not bad for a starter as some
even include an awning.
I suppose the credit crunch has some advantages
Local storage is no problem so it's a case of getting it and driving it around to get used to it as I've never towed anything bigger than a
6x4 trailer. |
