I've bought (and regretted doing so) a lot of cars over my short 'static' times with my jobs and can honestly say I neglect the LWB beast completely. 3yrs of ownership without anything other than Oil filter and change - front pads and nothing much else.
Only hitch was the AFM - usual carbon issue - so a wipe out with carb cleaner and a good blast later she's fine again - OH - and the damn windscreen is now cracked and will need replacement.
She hasn't got any leaks other than the oil now starting to weep from the cam seals - a common issue I'm prepared for. Other than that - absolutely everything else is spot on and she's in fantastic condition all over..... best bit - last owner had left her standing and wanted rid - so she came for a measly £150! We've done well over 20K in her and she's pulled classic cars all over Europe without missing a beat. Solid as a rock and all original but will need a touch up from some scrote keying it and me scratching her in my first off-roading session (god - what a laugh!)
My GF (who usually frowns on ANYTHING I bring home) loves it and it's now 'her car'. Takes us, the dog and our newborn without a problem and is a pleasure to own..... it may sound OTT - but I really do rate this old tank as one of the best all round vehicles I've ever come across - only downside will be moving on if anything terminal happens (and that'll be convincing the GF) - but I'll be looking for another one for sure.
I'm now ready for suspension bushes replacement and will prob do shocks and CV's - discs etc.. .all in one overhaul. She has well and truelly earned it. |

Had my 2003 Shogun Di-D for almost three years now. Been a fantastic workhorse. Bought it to pull a caravan. These things would pull your house! Clocked up over 30'000 miles in it and never cost me a penny apart from servicing, a pair of brake discs/ pads, and a ball joint. Clutch is on its way out now but it has nearly 100k on it so just to be expected. Best 4x4 in the world! look great too. |

Hi ,Ive had my 1996 2.8 tdi shorty since 2003. Ive replaced :
4 tyres
2 batteries
1 lower outer ball joint
1 pitman arm
1 set rear brake pads
1 turbo water pipe
All the other work I have done has been no parts such as service the EGR valve twice (as per this helpful site)which gets rid of the rough idle and stalling etc and remedied the really annoying top windscreen ( black) trim that used to buzz like swarm of bee's every time we went over 50mph. I even went to the Mitsi agent about it they didn't have a clue so I never told them once I had read what it was causing it on this site (many thanks ) . I love the truck and it tows my 2.5 ton trailer boat like dream !!! It has now done 131,000 ks. I would love a later model and will get one one day. |

alternator 150 pounds
main crank pulley 80 pounds
2 x fan belts 12 pounds
had all injectors recalibrated by specialist ( friend of mine did it cheap ) 50 pounds
have not included the cost of getting head gasket done

as had all skimmed an pressure tested to make sure

I had allways been a landi owner for years, till I got a paji now its lovely not being on the ramps every week for something the first one I got was my own fault it was a dog when I bought it and I should of known better, any hoe padji no 3 an old mk1 waggon f plate auto lwb 2.5 cant comment too much yet but earl signs are very promising, bought the old girl on friday (as my old dog padj died after 300 thousand miles with no more problems than a bolt or two working loose and It got used on the farm in some very sticky mud marsh work etc , it was manual and a very reliable truck, it whent bang friday 26th nov 2010 (never had a truck do it in sutch style ) lol any way whent to see a friend in the trade and he had this lovely old waggon paji £800 the engine has been rebuilt top to toe with profecional recepts to back it up, so we discusd the details and the deal was done he still gave us £400 for our old k plate mk2 with nackered engine the waggon so far is lovely a bit heaier on the stering than our k plate but its is a mk1 and an f plate every thing is km and if it keeps going at the rate it is Im a happy bunnie just hevier on fuel but i can live with that (if you want economy dot buy a 4x4) |

Well my ownership and experience is as follows - bought my first Paj in 1999 it was a 2.8 Diesel M Reg (1995) loved that Truck,
Japenese imports were new at the time and lots of people warned me off, Not proper underseal, not UK spec, emission problems.
Too late, I was overwhelmed by the spec compared to the equivelent UK Shogun, swopped 12k for that truck and never regretted a
single penny. Had a couple of arial masts, two batteries and a set of tyres + Servicing and MOTs thats all in six years and about
70,000 Miles. Sold it to my uncle in 2002, He doesnt look after his cars, he still has it now and it has never let him down. I dont
think he has vaccumed since, or washed it more than a couple of times, I only really see it at funerals and weddings, but it still looks
good. I then had a fling with Rover 75s, then moved on to Jags, Then Last year moved to an area more rural, and the Jag is hopeless
in the Snow and Ice, Hence my latest aquisition - Yes another 2.8 Turbo - 1995 again, not so many Bells and whistles but so far so
good, only done about 600 miles so far but touch wood - its all good......... |

Hi All, new to the site and to Pajero's.
Just bought my first Pajero 2.5 LWB J - 1991 exceed. Inlaws have had several which won it for me.
Bought it just as the temperature in South Wales hit -8. The day I picked it up it was covered with 4 to 5 inches of snow.
Paj had not been started for 3 weeks so i was a little concerned that it would need jumping to get it going.. or worse.
No chance started first time on the button and warmed up like no other vehicle I have owned .
What a pleasure to drive home.
So far the cost (except for buying the vehicle) is diesel, however I have started to put a small cosmetic list together, oh and may need two batteries as would not start this morning... minor issue as RAC will get a call out for home start.
I must say the vehicle is 19 years old and awesome.
As for the person i bought it from, they need to go back to school as they do not understand what yes means i;e do all the electrics work - yes, uurrr no they do not .
Minor issue again and just blabbing now.
Pajero TOP 4x4 and being 19 years old...what more can you say . |

Had my Paj almost a year now, done 3,300 miles which includes two long trips comprising cornwall then devon and back and peak district and back. Not a blip. Plenty of trips around town and the south east too.
At purchase, I did an oil change plus the three filters, new rocker cover gasket/half moons, three new wiper blades plus aircon regas. That's it. Apart from giving things a quick squirt of WD40 every now & then, washing her and the occasional polish she's not needed anything else. As the weather gets better I'll do another oil & filters change plus I'll also check the diff oil, autobox oil, grease nipples, brake pad wear and general tlc.
One of the belts is squeaking a little bit so might be time to change it. Last MOT (just before I bought her) had a notification about rear exhaust so will jack up the rear end and have a look and take any appropriate action. |

I got mine nearly 3 years ago, to date a couple of full services, brakes front and rear, exhaust back box ,new head and gasket, I think the previous owner did a gasket swap with none genuine gasket , looks like the water pump is about to give up the ghost ,water leak and "that noise" in the right area for a worn shaft, other than that lovely motor. 75 000km on the clock when I got it and 135 000 now , 60 000 in 3 years and quite a lot of that towing ,including my boat (a ton + trailer) is good in my books especially for the fuel returns it gives for the size of it. All in all, I love my Paj !!! Bargain. |

Had My 95 2.8 a year now...To date its Had the Head done, Crankshaft pulley done after it mangled the Crank housing, the Fuel Pump Seal done, the Chassis welded up and New Brake pipes all round Plus fuel pipes as well.......its Had 2 services.
Its cost me a wee fortune but the wifes insistance that she sell a kidney in India to pay for it seem to make it all worth while..
Nows she going well (the paj not the Kidneyless wife), I just live each day thinking..Hmmmmm..what the hell else can go wrong with it and when? But all In..I just love the old beast (The Paj not the wife)...I love the wife more and shes never blown her head like tha Paj has..
ahh.the Joys of Paj ownerdom...

well after reading only some of these postings, here is what has gone wrong & what I’ve spent on my Shogun & Pajero 2800!
Pajero 2800,,,,,,fuel pump full refurbishment(only needed front seals but had it all done) cost £450,,,new complete exhaust cost £120,
other than normal servicing that's it,,,had for 4 years & bought for £1900 on a 1996 reg!
Shogun 2800,,,,,,water pump cost £35,,,full complete exhaust cost £120,,,power window motor cost free,
other than normal servicing that's it,,,had for 2 years & bought for £1000 on a 1994 reg!
both of these are used every day pulling horse boxes, car transporter, mini diggers, ect ect all over the north west England!!
wouldn't use anything else now!
the only people that seem to call these unreliable are avid Land rover owners who won't have anything British slagged off!
had a Discovery once & what a piece of S**t it was,,,had it for 4 days & sold it at a loss of £700 "NEVER AGAIN"!
IF IT'S NOT JAP IT'S S,*beep*,,,,ONCE YOU GO JAP YOU NEVER GO BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
