Has anyone had problems with rust on the leading edge of their sunroof.
I am looking for an idiots guide on how to remove the sunroof so I can clean it up, or, ideally find a cheap replacement in good condition.

Hi Slinger,
this is a common problem with the PJ sunroof, usually just affecting the area under the leading edge above the drivers seat.
Unfortunately, I recall this was covered in the pre-Oct 2002 forums, before we changed host and lost the Bulletin Board!
Hopefully, you will get a formal reply to advise how to sort this out, then I'll transfer this thread over to the FAQ section.
Regards,
Simon. |

Slinger, I had the same problem with my Pajero's sunroof. It is wise to clean the rust ASAP and fill any little holes you may find!! I didn't and ended up with a leaking sunroof when it was raining heavily!
Removal is simple (you may need an assistant to lift the sunroof, as it is heaviesh!). This is for LWB elec. sunroof!!
1- get into the back seat and slide back the sun visor under the sunroof.
2- you'll see FOUR plastic squarish covers on the sides of the glass- these are held by screws
3- Unscrew the plastic covers and you'll see TWO nuts underneath each plastic cover... total EIGHT.
4- Loosen the nuts and remove.
5- The sunroof is free now and can be pushed gently from below... Now your assistant may be quite helpfull!!
6- The rubber seals around the glass hide more rust than the eye can see... check and fix accordingly.... I used Silicon based sealant.
7- Take the opportunately with the sunroof off, and clean (use also WD40) the "rails" where the sunroof slides.
8- Put back together and test.
