On a mark 2 there are 3 screws underneath the switch panel for the variable suspension.Once they are out, the rear section splits from the front half. The handbrake has its own lift off panel too, no screws.

There are two screws in the box, two in the footwells and another two underneath the switches between the box and the gearstick. remove the 4 wheel drive gear knob then you should be able to lift the whole assembly out, twisting it a little to get it over the auto shift lever. there are a few connectors which need to be unplugged before you can lift it out. there's a plastic surround at th bottom of the hand brake which comes off.

How exactly does the 4WD stick come off as I'm trying to also remove the centre console and can't seem to get it undone?

Thanks

Mike

The knob unscrews if thats all you need.

If you want to get the whole stick out, then the screws around the base plate (about 6) come out, try and keep the rubber boot in its plastic holder, its a bit of a *beep* getting it to fit back in. Then there are some screws holding the stick into the box. It'll then lift out. This exposes the top of the box so dont drop owt into it. Careful refitting as you have to locate into the sprung loaded slot.

Pull the handbrake right up and lift out the console.

Thanks - I'm just trying to get the knob off but the whole stick twists. Must be jammed tight - WD40 might be in order.

THanks
