The access to the level gauge is under the drivers seat - it is an absolute pig to get to.

You can see the plates in the image below -  the one you opened is nearest the top of the picture - the cover you need to open is further forward on the car.

Great info thanks. I have this job to do, I was preparing to drop the tank to do it but from this looks like I can instead remove the drivers seat, and do it from the top, far preferable!

You 'may' be able to get the seat back far enough to get at it but since I dropped my tank I didn't need to try that route so I wouldn't guarantee it  Wink

Getting the carpet up around it without major mayhem and destruction may also be a challenge ...

removing the whole tank is much easier than removing the front seat and the carpet..

--- the opening / access to the level gauge sending unit is between the front and second row seats.
if you are seating on the second row seats the opening / access is located underneath your foot NOT UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT, it is located at the back of the driver seat (right hand drive vehicles)

another thing you can do is to cut the carpet out if you find a lot of trouble removing the diesel tank.

I have done this job today. Thread here http://www.pocuk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1319285#1319285

Everyone is different but in my eyes there is no way that removing the entire tank struggling under the vehicle is easier than doing it from above. All done in 1 hour with a phillips screwdriver, 14, 12, 10 and 8mm sockets only tools needed, didn't even get dirty hands or stinking of diesel!
