well as my truck is all running fine and my better half has put me on a modification ban while it under the warranty she made me take out i have been board I'm on leave at the moment and figured I would get a few jobs done on my off roader. Now my job involves playing with radios and figured I would throw a post up showing what I did, introduce my toy and if anyone has any questions I'll try and answer them.
anyway the challenge, my buggy has a steel frame and a plastic body. why is this an issue, well CB antennas use the body work of the veh to create a earthing plane, well that that in a nut shell. The other issue has always been mounting a CB in a veh with no weather protection at all hahaha.
so my buggy, toy, off roader is a polaris RZR xp 900, so far I done quite a few jobs but even though I brought it brand new I still have a massive list.
so the job at hand. as you can see from these older pictures (taken in Strata florida mid Wales) the Antenna is already fitted so I attached the coax with a soldered connector fitted to the bottom then I routed it through the plastic body work.
bit of improvising
had to do some miner room clearance to give better access
next was the wiring, this is made easy because of spare port in the lume for adding light bars etc.
then I used some brackets I had made a while ago
and finally it's fitted
I had this set up in my L200 was getting 10miles in range. I have tested it in terms of it receives a signal and sends one, but I haven't range tested it yet. it will eventually be wired into a rally type combining box so a signal head set can be worn to use this, an intercom and send and receive calls on the old blower. not sure how it will all work with my current blue tooth sound system that fitted.
Anyway hope you enjoy this and i promise as soon as i'm allowed to do work on the shogun I will get some threads going. |
