Morning all. I'm new on here so this is my first post. i've a 2004 Sport  which is stuck in 5th gear.clutch seems fine but the shifter won't budge. I thought it could be the bottom bush or ball below the shifter so i thought i would check this before messing with the box. i have removed the centre console but can not get the chrome extension off the gear stick. Is there a knack to this or is it just brute force? Btw its a 2.5 d with a manual box. Any suggetions?
thanks

Does this help you? It's from a 1999 workshop manual, but I don't think it's changed:
