I've read here that disconnecting the turbo boost pipe reduces smoke on acceleration with the 2.8TD. Where exactly is this located? I don't have a problem as far as I know but I'm curious to know where this is just in case.

If you disconnect the turbo boost pipe, (I take it you mean the turbo actuator pipe) you'll have a 20% plus loss of power and more smoke. I think you may mean the pipe to the egr valve which will prevent exhaust gases returning to the intake manifold. Many users blank off this valve with good results.

I read about it here:

http://www.pocuk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=163292&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30

see the last few posts at the bottom of page 3.

Also referred to in an earlier post as the 'boost enrichment pipe'

Why would you want to even consider doing that?

The fuel pump needs to know when the turbo is boosting so it can add more fuel to the extra air going into the engine.

If the pipe is removed then the engine will run lean on boost - so yes, it will reduce smoke if the smoke is unburnt fuel.

The person who did it in that post was just experimenting without much understanding of the need to leave that pipe connected.

As Trekker says, the normal pipe that is removed is on the EGR valve and is part of blanking the EGR valve to reduce smoke but this year the MOT test has changed and if the tester sees the EGR valve has been blanked then it is a MOT fail.

Like I said, I don't have a problem (at least I didn't on the last MOT) but wanted to find out more about what this hose does.
