Sorry for the late reply, I have only just seen your post.

Here you go!

Step by step guide!

3.0L 24Valve Spark Plug Change

This is for a Montero/Shogun Sport but same engine.

I used this guide when I did mine, Just take your time and mark everything up carefully and you will be fine.

Take note of the different bolt lengths on the plenum chamber, because there are various lengths.

You will need a new Plenum to Inlet manifold gasket and a new EGR pipe gasket.

Use NGK Platinum tipped plugs and you won't have to do it again for another 50,000 miles

And by the way, it's easier than it looks.

Let us know how you get on.

Well... how did it go ?

I am going to do mine shortly - had a quick look at the weekend and it looks like a bit of a faff, but it's only nuts and bolts innit ?!

Did mine yesterday, and yes, it's a bit of a faff, but only bolts, and conectors which are fairly self explanatory.
Used Loctite flange sealant smeared on the old plenum to manifold gasket: perfect !
The above mentioned guide is a great help, but you'll probably end up thinking it was easier than the guide made it look !!

personally i use the brisk silver lpg/cng plugs, they are far cheaper than the platinum tipped ones, and honestly its not such a big job really. If you leave all the coil covers off for the next time you can get to them without even removing the plenm, just the trottle body and the egr on one bank. Mind you need the right tools, couple of extension bars and a wobbly bar is a must.
The most important thing to remember with whatever plugs you choose, and im going to shout it from the roof tops !!
GAP THE BLOODY PLUGS DOWN TO .6 IF ITS ON GAS !!! AND CHANGE THE HT LEADS FOR GOOD ONES WHILE YOU ARE THERE !!

got the plugs, got a new set of leads, just need the 2 gaskets mentioned before, but i like the sound of not having to remove the plenum next time.

any ideas anyone

i'll have a look for the covers and remove them so it is just the leads going to the plugs

I would just like to report that I changed mine last weekend, as previously mentioned by others, it is straightforward enough.I removed all plugs and most hoses then laid the whole thing over to the left, keeping the fuel lines connected. You have to be around 9 feet tall to reach the bolt at the back, I had to kneel either side of the rad to get the *beep*. All done in 3 hrs and I just plodded away, keener to get it right than rush. And, did it all with a joe-cheapex blow moulded tool kit and a long extension bar. You will also need a small spark plug socket, 10mm and 12mm sockets. I used 3/8" drive which was easy to get into the gaps between pipes etc,.. I am very impressed with the build quality of our beasty and as long as fuel doesn't get too expensive (Hmmm!) I look forward to keeping it. Very Happy Thanks for all advice on site.
