Apologies I obviously omitted the part about exchanging the new oil and water-cooled model for straight oil with the seller for the same price. It's been a long few days |
No problem at all. The important thing is that it's sorted and working. I didn't want you to cook the turbo because of lack of coolant. |

Thanks for the replies guys, so few days spent removing turbos and refitting, about 45 mins now
So problems lied in actuator arms operating pressure. Run an airline on old turbo and one on new turbo, big difference in pressure to open up the dump valve. Adjusted the new turbo to the same operating pressure of the old one by undoing the retaining screw on the actuator arm and adjusting until pin alignment was near on covering half the hole on the actuator arm and hey presto, no overboosting and pulling like a steam train! |
Hi rob, I'm having exactly the same issues that you had, I e just fitted a brand new head, few weeks later turbo went, got a maxspeedingrods off the same market place, run great for a week or so, then started overboosting, I plumbed a boost gauge in, and went for a drive, I'm boosting 15/16 psi before relief valve opens on intake manifold, I'm planning on removing turbo and comparing against my old one with a boost gauge and pump on the bench and hopefully sort it like you did, I'm hopefully going to get it down to the stock 0.9 bar, what did you get it down to? |

Hey Ryan, it took a wee bit of fiddling but eventually just got it above standard PSI, but it was close enough for me. A reliable, well made air gauge on the compressor is a god send. Good luck chap, if you need any help. Let me know 👍 |

Thanks for the swift reply Rob, I've not got a compressor, I was going to use a bicycle pump attached to my boost gauge don't know if that would work, its a pain why they tuck the actuator away behind turbo so you can't get to it, also wierd that it took over a week to start overboosting, anyway ill let you know how I get on thanks |

Hi Rob, think I've sorted mine, all I had was a small 12v tyre pump T'd off to my boost gauge, first tested the old turbo and the wastegate seemed to start opening at 10psi, which I thought might be a bit low and it might be worn, the best I got with new turbo was getting it to start opening at 12psi, that was only 1.5 turns of the rod, if I did even a half a turn any more then I wouldn't have had any pre load on the latch, anyway, its pulling well and seems to be sorted, thanks |
