Hello all,
I am looking for some help on the registration process for an imported Pajero.

I know that older than 10 years needs registration and MoT and newer than 10 years requires SVA, MoT and registration.

I know that there are some mods to be done such as the speedo, which mod is best for this the new face or the electronic conversion. I know a fog light needs to be fitted, but are there any other must do's.

What I am really looking for is the 'order' in which things must be done, what forms it is with VOSA for registration plus any tip suggestions and links that people might be able to offer.

Birmingham SVA station is the closest to me, anyone had any dealongs with this station

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Andy.

Well you've answered some of the questions yourself here already. I'm assuming you're importing it yourself as a dealer should do all this for you. Anyway, if you are doing it yourself & it's over 10 years old then you don't have much to worry about.

My first Paj was a 10+ diesel 2.8 & all I needed was a fog light fitted & stickers on the dial to show MPH as well as KPH. You can change the dials of course, but I didn't bother & although I had the stickers the MOT was given without them being fitted so I never bothered. However, if it's petrol you will need a modified fuel filler neck but these are only a few quid so it's still an easy mod. Therefore, get your insurance, MOT, C&E duty paid certificate & japanese de-registration document and off you go to the DVLA to register it.........

However, if your talking under 10yrs then the SVA is a different ball game. My second Paj is a 3.5 V6 and for the SVA I had to remove every added extra, ie bull bars, spots, skid plates & any add-ons inside like remote locking/starting aerial, sat nav extras, basically anything that wasn't factory fitted, wind deflectors are only acceptable if they have chrome/rubber edging fitted. Also when you apply for the SVA make sure you don't quote top speed which is greater than your tyre rating or it will fail. Take out the flare & holder if it has one, remove the spare tyre and blank off the holes/bracket or this fails too. This was all beyond my capabilities so I used a company who does these regularly and every penny I paid them was worth it to get it through the SVA. Also under 10years it needs a model report to confirm steering and/or noise emissions compliance which the VOSA website can tell you if available. If not you could be in trouble. PM me if you have any questions cos believe me this is the SHORT answer to the SVA issue.

I should add that, even if SVA is required, it sure is worth it!

Thanks for the reply, I collected a V55/5 from the DVLA along with the import pack that they do.

All seems fairly straightforward. One thing that is mentioned a lot in the V55/5 notes and that is the CoC and that a lot of the information to go onto the V55/5 has to come off of the CoC. I am guessing that ths is something like a Certificate of Conformaty, Is this correct???, and most importantly where does it come from???. I am looking to buy a raw car from the auction, hence why I am looking to register it myself and save a bit more money.

The car that I am looking to buy will be over 10 years old so no SVA to worry about.

Thanks for your help and advice.

Andy
