I had the same prob on my 89
it was a poor connection on the steering column
take the cowling off, and you'll see a metal spring arm contacting the back of the steering wheel
clean it, and make sure it's in contact Wink

Hi Colin,
You wont get any +/positive power at the horn push, it's negative/earth switched.
The easiest way to check it is, to use a test lamp connect one end to a known positive & the other to your horn feed, then with the horn button pressed check the supply wire to your horns, if both of those are good connections try the wiring near your horns behind the grill.
My money's on the wiring behind the grill, you get all sorts of carp thrown up there, any connections in that area will suffer water ingress eventually.
HTH. Wink

When my horn failed I found That --as already stated , the horn should be alive-and the horn button merely  earths and completes the circuit making horn blow

what I did to cure mine was to adjust horns--you should find adjusting screw on them

Inside of the horn are a pair of contacts--these are what needs adjusting

So the horn should be alive --through the points/contacts within --then up to horn button --yes live----waiting for button to be pressed ,thus earthing live and horn will go

I cant remember but it may be necessary to turn ign, on for this to happen
