As im doing the cooling system on my 1996, 2.8 paj, im going crazy and replacing all the bits, hoses, stats and sensors..
I was just wondering,
Does anyone know what the single blade sensor with the question marks is and what its for ??

ECT is the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor.
I may have to break into the loom to find out.. |

That was my first though too kfieldin but, the top sensor is the one that works my gauge, im now thinking it may be a stat for bringing the aircon fan on,
to aid the cooling for the rad like. |

Its the temp sensor that switches the air-con OFF at about 115deg C. The sensor on the head 'T' shaped terminals is temp guage and
glow plug ecu temp and also switches the air-con fan ON at about 110deg C, to aid cooling if this is of help. |

Oh yes, the one marked 'ECT' is the auto box temp (limp mode) sensor. |

I'm interested in how this works as well, as I'm not sure mine is...
So you're saying that the one at the top of the photo marked "temp gauge sensor" actually does three things, dashboard temp gauge, glow plug ECU temp info AND switches the electric fan on at 108dC?
Also my car (an early '97 2.8 TD Shogun) doesn't appear to have the "off" sensor. It has one that looks like the ECT sensor in the photo, although it's on the right of the two, but the other hole just has a plug in it. Does that mean it only goes off when the coolant temp drops again or is the Shogun set-up different - I've read somewhere that the cooling system can vary depending on the original target sales region? |

I've been reading lots of info , with slightly differing info. there are sensors and or temp switches for the following
1. temp gauge
2. OD enable temp switch
3. glow plug switch
4. ECT sensor (I'm thinking this tells the auto to go into limp mode if the engine gets too hot
5. Air Con switch
All this is on my ex diesel wiring loom so I'm going to trace each plug and confirm .
Some of the sensors do more than one operation ...........ie the temperature gauge and glow plug I think may be the "T" one , I'll have a play and get back on here later at the weekend |

This is an old thread and pictures uploaded to locate sensors are not accessible anymore. Can you please help my identify the temp sensor on 4M40 (Pajero-II) Right Hand Drive. OD is not engaged on AUTO mode (this still working in HOLD mode). I think I have the broken wire problem with OverDrive Temp Switch (AutoTransmission). Cannot locate any Blue/White wire as told in above discussion. I can see few sensor under the intercooler near the upper water connection for radiator. Being an old and many times repaired vehicle there are no visible labels and wire colors are faded or changed. Can you please share a picture in which OD temperature switch / sensor is marked? |

You can bypass the OD sensor (single wire if you can find it!) directly to ground. My loom had a spare ground wire unused and it fit right in. |
