To me it sounds like speed sensors on pump.
1st thing I do is run them on a scope at ecu then if poor or missing move scope to pump so it eliminates wiring.
I often bump into a rough pin on plug on side of pump.
this gives you symptoms like you're explaining. |

Boicult If you dont have a oscilloscope then your screwed.
sorry.
But with me I scope signal inputs at ecu.
thats no fun, look at where the ecu is then you see what I mean.
If theres no signal I scope at pump.
if signal there then it always ends up being a pin in the wiring plug. |

I am have the same problem on 97 2.8, perfect idle P & N, perfect when driving. No smoke, even when gunning it. Good in D & R at first, but rough idle when warm. I just replaced fuel filter, new factory part from Mitshi dealer in bury st edmunds, I though this would f/x problem. Old filter was a generic brand. I see that jimmybond seems to be the expert on this issue. Jimmybond, if you see this can you contact me I am local to your area. Thanks, any advice is appreciated. |

Pajero 2006 Diesel 3.2 Ddi Gen3
I have the symptoms previously described; rough idle when the engine is warm getting worse as the temperature increases, but only when the vehicle is stationary in drive or reverse. As soon as you nudge it into neutral or park it dissappers, as soon as you put a little load on it smooths.
If I come off the autobahn/motorway on a hot day into stop/go traffic it gets really rough, but still smooth in neutral/park although engine revs seem a little high.
On the plus side after 380,000 kms the engine pulls like a train and doesn't smoke at all. I have had the vehicle since new and it gets serviced every 10,000k or twice a year including fuel filters.
Its a great car but need to get this sorted.
One other symptom which may or may not be related; I have had a "no start" situation maybe 3 times in the past 2 yrs. Everything turns over smoothly but just does fire. If you leave it a few hours it starts on the button again, no smoke, no drama.
The reason for replying/quoting "JimmyBond" is that I I am about to try the fuel pump speed sensors. I have cleaned the EGR valve. Garages have suggested its the fuel pump but I am not convinced.
Anyone else got a positive result to fixing this fault? It seems not uncommon. |
