I recently bought a manual gearbox 2005 3.2 Did SWB

When testing it I ran it in all drive options. All the lights lit up as required when I drove it on the road when I went through all the options.

Now when I put it into low 4wd with diff lock the rear diff lock light doesnt come on? Does it have to be driven any distance for it to come on or can anyone point me at what the issues might be.

Thanks in advance.

Hello

Unless you have a switch in front of the gear lever you do not have a rear diff lock.  Most after 03 only have traction control, my 2.8 will only engage the diff lock in low range with centre diff lock at speeds below about 5 mph when you push the button.  Our 3.2 only has traction control.

Regards Mark

i don't think you should use 4HLC and 4LLC on the road, it breaks things, so i understand?

I'm 99% sure an 05 will have the later traction control. The got rid of the rear diff lock in favour of the traction control in late 2003.

4HLc and 4LLc lock the _centre_ diff, not the rear.

Its ok for testing but only in a straight line and not at speed and not for long.

I think you are all correct. An 05 doesnt have a rear diff lock but has traction control however I was surprised to find that it does not have an LSD but has an open diff!!

I was positive I looked out for the rear diff lock light when purchasing it but must have been mistaken.

Just to be certain I`ll scout around under it for the vacuum switch.

No switch on console in front of gearshift then no rear diff lock.

I wouldn't worry, the traction and stability control on the 03 plate onwards trucks works very well both on and off the road.

When off roading you need to turn the stability control off. Doing this allows the traction control to do its job properly.

The stability control only operates at higher speed anyway. I've done three green lane days in Derbyshire in my mk3, it has driven with ease over all I've tried, incl Chapel Gate, Roych, bamford clough, monsall head, brushfield, etc.
In 4L it turns the stability off for you but the traction control mimics the rear locker by applying individually the rear brakes to a wheel which has lost traction.
One of the lads I go out with has a disco, unfortunately for him they fitted traction control and got rid of the bloddy centre diff lock too!
From my experience you need do nothing other than set the transfer box lever to the appropriate position for the terrain then let the vehicle do the rest.
