I think that you get what you pay for. |

At the moment I'm unsure if my turbo is knackered it whistles fine when ticking over
But it gets noisy when in gear and accelerated
I don't know if it's getting starved of oil ect I would have thought it would make more noise in tick over if it was the bearing in the turbo
Is the oil feed pipe on top or bottom f the turbo |

If only that were true - there is some shocking service and craftsmanship out there.
I think it is more accurate to say that you don't get what you don't pay for. |

I can't see a £150 Turbo being any good
Hutchy gave me some part numbers for a cartridge so I may go down that route |

I thought that.

Central Turbos fitted a new cartridge in mine but the difference was that he also fitted a new wastegate and actuator and then balanced the rotor. You could see where he had shaved the ends of some of the vanes with some sort of specialist machinery.
He said that all cartridges that are DIY fitted are never balanced as well as when fitted by a specialist.
The casing was also ultrasonically cleaned and the whole thing looked as good as new.. |

My problem is if I here a noise that sounded different from before it's a major catastrophe
In my head but it's probably nothing so my best solution is wait for it to go completely then I no it's knackered
So for now I'll move on to my steering problems |

All owners of old cars are like that. |

Mine is the same - probably just some rainwater drying off the hot engine. |

Hi, Richy 85 I've just fitted the same turbo to my 2.8, and now have an issue with it over boosting, I've fitted a boost gauge and its boosting to 15/16 psi, then the relief valve opens on inlet manifold, I've tried adjusting the waste gate rod but its impossible to do whilst fitted, looks like I'll have to remove turbo again and make the rod longer to lower the boost, did you have this issue with your turbo, thanks |
