I've been given the job of replacing the clutch on a Ford Focus. I was just looking at the parts and noticed the pressure plate is 'not' marked flywheel side. Is there a way to tell which way round to fit it? |

Does it have an offset bolt pattern? It may well only fit on one orientation.

IIRC, the boss is longer on the pressure plate-facing side of the driven plate than it is on the flywheel side, which would mean that the screws wouldn’t reach the holes and the lining material would be proud of the flywheel if presented arse about first, so it should be impossible to get it wrong. Unless Focii and their clutches have changed massively since the last time I was in about at one, probably no more than seven or eight years.
..Just checked and not only is the boss offset different from side to side, but the entire hub of the driven plate is offset into the pressure plate, the flatter side facing the flywheel.
The above may vary if your car has a dual mass flywheel, I was assuming not as you'd have noticed if it had. |
