In the past, I've always placed the Waxoyl tin in a bucket of hot water in order to keep it sufficiently liquid.

Yesterday I warmed the Waxoyl in the oven at 75C, and then wrapped the container in a few layers of bubble wrap to retain the warmth.  So much better!  No need to keep refilling the bucket with hot water, or trying to stop the tin from floating.  Why didn't I think of it before?  Rolling Eyes

My other tip is to flush the pump and applicator through with white spirit after use.

I have the older version of the applicator, which to me looks better than its replacement.  This is what I have:

Or use Dinitrol - no such problems with spraying it - comes in aerosols.

And the applicator isn't just a plastic pipe with a nail in the end - or have they changed the design since I last used it 20 years ago  Wink

You can get Waxoyl in aerosols too Pete, but it's an expensive way of doing it.  It's only the cavity sprayer that has a nail in the end! And it works very well too.  Smile

Having at last mastered the art of applying Waxoyl, I am in no rush to abandon it!  Laughing

There must be loads of kitchen appliances that get used for unusual things when SWMBO is out  Very Happy

Boiling motorbike chains in grease on the hob, cleaning parts in the dishwasher, curing stove enamel in the oven - I never got caught  Very Happy
