Just had MOT and advisory for corrosion on rear sills.

Any advice on where to source new sills and what is it likely to cost to replace.

I cannot weld.

If its an advisory Dennis it means it hasn't rusted through so it doesn't need welding.

I've noticed a line of rust on the right rear sill of my 2006 LWB .. looks to me like it's come all the way thru.

Is this an MOT fail? Should I get it cut out and have a new section welded in?

Pretty sure the answers are Yes and Yes but always good to ask.

Had my 57p done last year for rear sills as it had failed.

Yeah, mines a 57 plate too .. I know a guy with a body shop who said he'd sort it out. Needs a few other bits touched up so probably time to go see him.

I can recommend Brunox Epoxy Rust Converter. I've used couple spray cans already on my 56 LWB and it looks better now than 2 years ago. This is a repeating process as it keeps coming back, but I think it is worth the money.

If its external rust I would recommend the following, clean as much off as possible, get some Bilt Hamber Deox Gel and paint this on the outside, put several coats on and build it up to 3-4mm thickness and cover with cling film and leave overnight.

Wash off with soapy water and a stiff brush and this will remove most of the rust, dry out and treat the poor areas again, this will bring it back to bright metal.
Coat with Bilt Hamber epoxy paint and cover well, let this dry and paint over it with ordinary paint to your vehicle colour.

Spray Bilt Hamber Ferrosol inside the sills through the bung holes and leave to soak, rinse out with water and let them dry thoroughly.

Get two spray cans of Bilt Hamber Dynax S 50 as you get a free straw, put the straw onto one of the cans and insert into a sill and spray while withdrawing the straw, this will coat the insides of the sills and it is so thin it penetrates welded joints, it is also self healing and if it gets scratched it heals and following borescoping vehicles it lasts for several years.

Not a fan of rust convertors as they are mainly phosphoric acid based and over time this does steel no good, BH stuff is calcium based and biodegradeable.
