I fitted a new alternator on my Mitsubishi Showgun 3.2 year 2005 about a year ago. Now it has stopped charging but it also is draining the battery very quickly even after a run.  I found that I had a draw on the battery of over 3.5 volts but when I disconnected the alternator it showed less than 1/2 a volt. I am not sure if I might have a problem with the alternator diode. I cannot test it because I don't know where it is.
 I have tested the two small wires from the back of the alternator, one white and the other red/white.Where they go I am not sure. On one wire I have battery reading 12.5 and on the other 5 volts.  Is this correct? Could you shed some light on my problems please.
