|
|
Hi has any one had problems with rear brake cliper not releasing and binding on disc ? My 2002 3.2Di-D has been unused for about a month after driving it for about 5 miles when I got out could smell hot brakes checked around car and found right hand rear drum was very hot thought it may be hand brake shoes not releasing so when home stripped rear hub down but all OK rear caliper didn't look so good so purchased new caliper flexi hose and brake pad set replaced said items and bleed brakes took car for test run but still binding checked for piston movement and it looks as if when brake pedal is released there is still pressure in that one caliper not allowing clearance between brake pad and disc any idea's appreciated. |

Pistons corroded, usually a boot is worn, missing, or punctured and this lets road dirt in and corrodes the piston.
Pistons are lubricated and you really need a new caliper, periodically lift the boot (when you replace pads) and use the correct rubber lube or silicon grease.
You can get this in tubes, snip the end of the nozzle and insert it under the boot and squeeze, not too much, massage the boot and retract the piston. |

Good advice from Assassin it only takes the tiniest bit of corrosion to seize a piston but as mentioned should be easy enough to free up if its recent. A question about your new caliper - did you buy just the caliper and fit pistons yourself or what? |
