Been reading up on here about which oil to use in the diff and transfer box.

Can the same oil be used for both diff and transfer

and which oil = GL5 75w90 or GL5 80w90? Hypoid or not?

Any body got a definite answer. I found that GL5 and NOW be used in both but i want to make sure first. ANd should it be Hypoid or normal oil

Many Thanks

Well Simon this is slightly complicated as early GL5 specification oils tended to corode yellow mwtals and this was rectified on later GL5 specification oils so use only new oil to ensure you have the correct oils and never use the old stufff in the garage.

You can use both GL5 specifications and either 75/90 or 80/90 Hypoid will suffice as while earlier models recommended 75/90 the later rationalisations recommended 80/90 or 75/90 and as the transfer boxes are the same, either will suffice and it should be EP or extreme pressure and hypoid is generally EP.
