in the back of the paj.
are we ABSOLUTELY certain that used oil is ok?
I am going to filter it through as many differing methods as i can - ending in the 25 micron screeen.......so i acept that the cleaning side is my concern, but i need to be certain that used oil is 'fundamently' ok..........
over to you guys........ |

i'm sure used veg oil contains water from the food that has been put through it. i was told at the local bio diesel centre that they superheat it up to remove the water etc. they may have been full of doggy doo doo, but i took the easy route and just used tesco's veg oil!!! |

AIUI, used oil can contain water. However, some will settle out to form a layer at the bottom and what's left can be boiled off. See http://www.journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_make.html for info on how make biodiesel - in there is some instructions on how to remove any water. More importantly, there's instructions on how to test a sample to see if it needs de-watering.

being a chef, he'll have an almost endless supply
He'll be online later (much later) |

Once you have filtered the oil you will see as plain as day after it's stood the water at the bottom, if its on the bottom then fit a tap a few inches above the bottom and if the water is on the top which i dont think it will be throw away the last inch as it comes to the bottom of the container your using. "there,,clear as cooking oil". I have spoken to my son inlaw who used old cooking oil before that this weather you could get away with a 50/50 mix Ive just been to tesco oil at 43p a litre. and my truck now smells lovely you would never know now days cos there are that many take aways in towns, near on every third shops. |

As far as i know heating the old oil is done to remove the food proteins.
you heat it up and the proteins form a scum on the top but i would check it out propperly before i used it.
keep us informed tiger i wouldnt mind having a go myself.
oh by the way were did you get your used oil from, if you dont mind me asking |
