|
|
Hi All,
Last coupla days, first thing in the morning the handbrake light on the dash stays on for a while, almost seems like once things warm up a bit it goes out.
No loss of brake function thus far, no apparent loss of brake fluid.
Before I go back to the place I brought from, any suggestions as to what it likely to be?

nobby,
My knowledge of cars is scarily scarce! Although, I bought a Haynes from the Club Shop, that should tell me where the switch is, yes?
Many Thanx

Hi bob c
This was happening to me. if you look in the engine bay (drivers side) there is a break fluid resiv. Undo the cap. inside there is a small float that get's stuck.
Just undo the cap have a wee look then replace the cap. your handbrake light should go out after that. If not then i think it's like an engine mangement light for brakes. check all you fluids , pads and disks.
Hope this helps . |

Mine did it quite recently. Turns out the front brake pads were worn.
When cold, the contacts electrical contacts were touching the disc, completing the circuit and the light was on.
After a short while they warmed up, expanded enough to break the circuit & the light went out.
Was like it for two weeks (about 600 miles) before the light stayed on all the time. |

That sounds about the same, lee337!
Light goes off on its own once car has driven for a while!
Okay, I'll explore pads.

handbrake light staying on indicates a problem somewhere in the braking system, check to see that all is in good order. |

i think you will find that the pad warning tags are mechanical they have no wires to them {they would get ripped off offroading }they screech when they are low as aposed to putting the warning light on if the fluid dips just slightly below norm this can make the light stay on open the brack fluid resovoir pop the float up and down a few times and top up if needed put lid back on that should sort it out |

A common problem that normally is the result of the float in the brake master cylinder sticking.
Undo the master cylinder cap and then re-tighten it. Should do the trick.
Excessive pad wear is indicated by a screeching noise.

Update on this issue;
I unscrewed the brake fluid reservoir cap ( after cleaning it first ), nudged the floaty thing inside a coupla times with a plastic pen shaft. replaced the cap.
Problem went away instantly, and hasn't recurred since!
Many thanx, everyone!
