Redders has apparently delegated some of planning of the laning to myself
The phrase scapegoat comes to mind
The plan in brief:
Organise 2 different routes. One for shineys and one for the not so shiney
This obviously means we need a bit of feedback from yourselves. We need an idea of how many want to join in and which route you would like to do.
To help you decide I can give a rough idea of whats on offer for each.
Thetford area
This will most likely be around the Thetford and King's forest area which is right on the doorstep of the MM campsite. This will be by and large based on the route we used for the last 2 Thetford meets of which there are some pics and write ups on here (I will try and sort links later).
The route is completely non damaging (if driven responsibly) although a few spots can get a little over grown but still not damaging. This being said the ground can change vastly dependant on the weather. It can be just dusty in the heat or VERY muddy in the wet.
This route is a nice woodland and heathland drive and a good day out for families. Also a few picnic spots enroute for scoff and toilet stops.
This route will be mostly offroad and not seeing too much time on the tarmac.
Unless we have unseasonable amounts of rain before the meet this can be done on standard road tyres without too much trouble. The majority of mud or deeper hole/ruts are avoidable, failing that there will be plenty of members wanting their picture taken towing you out
North West Norfolk
This route still needs a bit of polishing off but at the moment it is looking like this......
It will take in the better known offroad sights of our fair county. Including at least 4 or 5 fords and some slightly more challenging lanes than the previous route. There is a slightly more increased chance of damage although as you will soon realise Norfolk may be full of lanes but it is not Wales or the Lakes So maybe some light scratching if you are not as careful as some but nothing that SHOULDN'T polish out. (Note to self: ensure all disclaimers are filled out in triplicate ) Although starting (or ending) in Thetford it will take us away from the general meet area so expect a bit more time on the tarmac and it will mean either a road drive back to the site or to start from the other end.
This route MAY be passable on road tyres but I would advise at least AT's, otherwise I would lay money on you having your picture taken ( A LOT ) Also non of the fords are excessively deep so no need for snorkels
Both of these routes are a good days driving at present so expect them to take 4 to 6 hours including stops.
Hoping to get some of the local members (especially those that have been to a Thetford meet before ) to volunteer to lead some groups. We can supply paper maps or memory map routes and will do a recce nearer the date to ensure everyone is happy to lead. But expect we may need others willing to help that are happy to take off with just a map and four sheep in tow waiting for you to slip up
Will post some pics of both routes in a bit.........
Also we may be able to organise these to be spread over 2 days rather than one so we don't swamp the area or so that if you like you could even do both. Or we could also have someone doing some smaller trips out in the local area? |

THE LISTS
Please note the numbers are only there to save me retyping each time. They are not a limit on either groups. Also it isn't a binding contract just a way to get an idea of numbers to accomodate. Although this will need to confirmed nearer to the date.
Finaly, volunteering for leading a group may mean you don't get the choice of routes but obviously won't be sending a shiney on the other route.

And some of the other route as explored so far.
Sorry but never been a great one for stopping for photos so the better bits tend to get driven but not recorded |
