Hi vinnie, and welcome to the club.
It looks like you have the classic symptoms of the injection pump front seal failure. You will find plenty of information here on how to deal with the needed repair. If you can't do it yourself, you will probably find someone here who can recommend a diesel specialist that can do the job for you in your area. |

Right before we look at seals
When did you last change the fuel filter..........also check under the truck for any visible signs of deisel leaks
Does the truck run ok when it has warmed up |

Same problem I had with mine tried everything fuel filters fuel lines renewed new heater plugs it was just about driving me round the bend. Found a garage in Glossop Derbyshire Andy Wood Motors 01457 899233 He knew exactly what was wrong it was the fuel pump seals. Had the job done, car has had a new lease of life starts every time no problems at all |

For those of you who have seen the pump seal problem come up time and time again, could you hypothesize for me...do you think it is a result of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel and thus lack of lubrication, or is pump seal failure simply inevitable at a certain mileage?
(I have a 93 Paj with 2800 coming to Canada in a few months, with 76k kms on it, and I'm wondering if I should consider getting the seals replaced before its put on the boat, or is it likely to go a long way yet, given its relatively low mileage? Yes, I know this is purely supposition on your part)... |

afaik the reason behind the problem was the material used to make the seals was never designed with low sulpher fuel in mind (as it did not exist at that time) or from substances present in biodiesel and SVO/WVO which reacts with the seal.
I'm not sure if it just perishes and/or shrinks or is corroded but either way it seems to expand when the engine heats up and effectiely plugs it's onw leaks to a certain extent, diminishing the problem.
I'm pretty sure that if you have to get it replaced, the new seal is made of a different material and the problem does not re-occur so fingers crossed it's a one time thing.
on a related note, if anyone is in Ireland and needs to get a replacement seal, here is a company that stocks them in Dublin and will deliver for about €8 inc. delivery, or you can pick one up at their office for just over a fiver.

And you want to speak to Andrew in Diesel Sales and ask for a front pump seal for a Paj.
I got one a few weeks back on ebay already but I'm not 100% convinced it's the right one and since I couldn't get any help here finding out if I bought the right part I decided I would have to buy something I know is going to be right rather than find out that the ebay part was wrong when my engine is in bits. |

|
|
Hi
My husband is working on our pajero 2.8 lwb exceed, as we speak, to replace the fuel pump seals and is using your forum guide to get him through it.
However we have a problem. On removal of the vacuum pump, (i think he called it), he has found that 2 of the 3 flat plates/brushes are broken! Does anyone have any advise or info on this please.
Is it possible to replace them or not.
Many thanks |
