So you want to tap into the power feeding your existing tv tuner to power the new one?
Prob your existing red is +ve so red on your new tv tuner and your existing black wire is -ve (black) so black on your new tuner.
The best way to be sure is to use a test meter. |

If you dont have one already get yourself a digi test meter. Maplin do then for about £5-£10.
Better to be 100% sure then fry your shiny new tv tuner.
Did your freeview tv tuner come with its own areal? is it like a stumpy magnetic mount one?
I will be interested to see what the reception is like, keep us posted.
Can you take some photos of the freeview menus and stuff on your screen when you get it working.
Thanks. |

ive had the freeview box wired up to the tv tuner and it works fine
picked up quite a few channels and that was in a built up area
was hoping to use the aerial on my tv tuner but its got square plugs and my free view is the round type like on your tv at home
the 1 with the freeview is the magnetic type |

Stibbs
check your PM
£4.99 meter from maplin
It will come with a set of leads.
The black one goes in the COM plug (common) on the meter
The red lead plugs in the V ma plug on the meter
Set the dial to Volts DC (V-)
Put the Black test probe on a shiny bit of your cars bodywork or the black lead on the plug going to your tv tuner.
Put the red test probe on the pin of the red wire going to your tv tuner.
If all is well, the meter should read 12.?? volts. If it has minus infront ie. -12.?? then your test leads are inverted, ie. you have the black test lead on a positive supply.
You may need to press the TV button on your radio before the existing tv tuner if powered up.
If you dont have a maplin nearby, im sure halfords will do something similar or even maybe B&Q |

stibbs,
if your not sure what your doing, dont do it.
not only can you fry the freeview, but you can also take out the rest of your ice equipment.
red is normally live+ and black neutral- but dont rely on mitsubishi wiring up the same colours. i know this from what i've seen at the navi box and radio. also you need a batt+ which keeps the memory of the freeview, like a radio and a switch live also know as acc.
you would then have to test the loom pins, with ign off check where the 12+ is, that maybe you acc+, then check all the others, then ign on and tv button, one of the pins will then become 12vdc, this will be the acc+.
i would advise though of not linking in the 2 together as you dont know the amp ratings of both pieces and what amp the fuse is.
me, i'm a maintenance electrician, and even i hate playing with car electrics.
so a couple of pounds spent getting a professional to run in the power may save you in the long run. |

Yeah i might be a idea to run a single fused cable to the back of the car.
All the freeview boxes ive seen on the bay dont use a perm live for memory retention. just +ve and -ve |

You could cheat.
If yours like my LWB has a 12v power outlet in the boot, you could just pick up 12v off the back of the socket.
Make sure it goes off with the ignition or you will end up with a flat battery.
Also make sure you fit a in-line fuse in the red wire. |
