i have already tried the following.
new air filter
put a bearing in the pipe
put 2 bottles of forte diesel treatment into a 3/4 full tank
and run the motor in 2nd gear for 8 miles at 4000+rpm(which i must admit i was not keen to do)

OK mate, fit a new fuel filter to the car, put a diesel cleaner additive direct into new filter, and take it for a good high revs run, then take striaght for retest.
Try this mate. |

when you say you "put a bearing in the pipe " do you mean the egr valve? if you do it needs to be blanked off with a blanking plate, the ballbearing in the pipe wont do it |

Hi,4x4 as chips
I see I'm a little late again but if you are still having problems :-
Mine failed a couple of months ago with 3.71?
tried all the additives with little effect, blanked off the EGR valve and passed with 2.12!
Blanking off isn't always the answer but it helped in my case it even cured a low rev diesel knock that happened on ocasions.....
Do use a proper plate, do clean the EGR valve in any case and do block off the vacuum pipe with a screw or well sized ball bearing.
hope this has helped you,
Mark (mph). |

too get engine and exhaust system nice and hot to burn off / blow out the excess soot deposits that ruin MOT test results.
I guess another simple solution would be fit a new exhaust every MOT?
